2017 Annual WVFLTA Conference

Keynote Speaker:  Dr. Stephen Krashen

Dr. Krashen, is best known for developing the first comprehensive theory on second language acquisition, introducing the concept of sheltered subject matter teaching, and as the co-inventor of the Natural Approach to foreign language teaching.

Our 2017 conference focuses on the ACTFL 6 core principles for world language teaching. We have a strand specifically aimed at Higher Education as well. Our workshops, plenary sessions, and cultural activity aim to move West Virginia forward in proficiency based world language instruction.

Non Degree Graduate Credit Hours

Attendees can earn 4 hours of credit at the conference! These hours can be used for salary classification. These credits are not used toward a Master’s Degree. You must already have an undergraduate degree to earn apply for and earn these hours. Additional information about both courses will be sent via email.

Concord University: WVFLTA- WL Prof. Key to Future = Three hours of Concord University non-degree graduate credit – $99. To receive credit, attend two full days of the conference, complete registration and pay by check or card at the conference, and complete & email a written assignment by November 11th.

WVU: LANG 930 = One hour of WVU non-degree graduate credit –  $72. To receive this credit, participants must attend two full days of the conference, download & complete the registration form by October 16th. The link registration link will be sent via email. Payment instructions will be emailed once you are registered.

Hotel Information

We have a block of rooms reserved at the Holiday Inn Charleston West. The rate is $99 per night. We have double and king rooms available on both Thursday, Oct. 19th and Friday, Oct. 20th. We will send a code out to use when booking.

To book, please call the hotel at 304 744 4641 between when we send the booking code and Oct. 5th.

This is the same hotel we stayed at the last two years. It is conveniently located near the conference and has a salt water pool!

Call for Poster Presentations

Do you have a great project, idea, new research, or a teaching method you would like to share with conference attendees. Do you feel like 45 minutes is too long, formal, or intimidating? We invite you to do a poster presentation at WVFLTA! The poster presentations provide an informal platform for you to share with fellow attendees as they explore your posters. Posters can be digital or a physical poster. You can bring photos and artifacts as well. If you would like to present a poster, please contact Amelia Richter at wvflta@gmail.com.
